Mac 'n' Cheese

Yay, this food blog is starting to look up! And I think it's quite distinct as to who post what, awesomeness!

mac and cheese

Sometime last week, Jac came over to my place and we cooked one of our all time favourite dish - Mac and Cheese! We love Mac and Cheese and the initial recipes we found all require a oven, which I unfortunately lack, so imagine our delight when we found one that just require the use of a stove!

Initially, when we cooked this, we allowed the macaroni to cook in the milk but to conserve time this time, I boiled the macaroni in water first before cooking it in the milk. It's much faster that way and requires less stirring, heh!

Macaroni and Cheese (serves 2)
    115g macaroni
    1 1/2 cup milk
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    3/4 teaspoon all-purpose flour
    1/8 cup butter
    3/4 cup shredded chedder cheese

1. Melt butter in saucepan over medium heat
2. Stir in flour and salt
3. Add milk and macaroni to saucepan, bring to boil
4. Reduce heat and cover
5. Simmer for 15mins or until pasta is tender, stirring occasionally
6. Add cheese, stir till cheese melts.
7. SERVE!

Muthu's Curry

Location: #B1-056, Suntec City Mall 3 Temasek Boulevard, S(038983)

Time: 12.01.2007, approximate 2000hr

Due to some unforeseen circumstances *cough cough*, K.K & Lil E. had their dinner-cravings denied. Nevertheless, their tummies were very hea
ted up and well-satisfied by from...TA-DAH!!! K.K gave a brief history:

"Muthu's has been around for decades, originating in Race Course Road where Indian cuisine generally involved eating off banana leaves with waiters coming around with laden tureens and sloshing simmered vegetables, spicy curries and fruity chutneys on your leaf.

That has since changed at Muthu's, which recently underwent a major makeover in its bid to go upmarket. Its main outlet in Race Course Road went through a $1 million revamp, while its new Suntec outlet cost $700,000 to do up, complete with hand blown glass beads fashioned into curtains, and unique wall features imported from India......"

*Lil E. was nodding away.*

Luckily the food were served just in time.

"Eat healthily. More vegetables please."
"Erm..masala sth, cabbages and carrots."

one of K.K's favourite dish - da MUTTON curry

Last but not least, the VERY FAMOUS fish-head curry!!!
Alright, it's only 2-piece fish curry..cos' it's feeding only 2 tummies. Not gonna waste any good food, right or not?

"Slurp...ah...sedab!!!" *pat pat tummy* Oh yes, lime juice......

Wanna know more about Muthu's curry? Just step in, sit down...and then ORDER la!!!! =)

Christmas cookies

This post is seriously very overdued but I haven't exactly been very regular with my posts. )))): I still need awhile to get adjusted to posting on a blog regularly and I've been pretty lazy to bring my camera out these days. Haven't been eating anything very special though.

For Christmas last year, Brenda and I decided to do something very nice by baking a batch of cookies for our friends. Since our house doesn't have an oven (so bloody depressing eh?) we went over to our cousin, Jessica's place! And we were there the whole day making hundreds of cookies. By the end of the day, my hand smelled of the cookie and I think I ate too much cookie dough.

chocolate chocolate chip cookies!

This were one of the two flavours of cookies we made. Basically just oodles of chocolate with a sprinkle of icing before it was sent into the oven. The insides were moist and soft and it smelled damn good. We got the recipe for this here!

peanut butter and choc cookie!

This is a close up of the other flavour of cookies we baked. This was made up of mostly peanut butter followed by a good handful of chocolate chip. The peanut butter tasted great with the chocolate chip and the insides were moist as well. The entire kitchen smelled brilliant!

Oh god all this talk and photos of food is making me even hungrier than I already am!

Holland's Snacks

Heya, this is gonna be a really short post with really big pictures. =)
So there we were, with rumbling stomachs at Holland Village....
since we wanted to pacify our stomachs a little before dinner, we bought Char Siew Bao from CRYSTAL JADE bakery.
Fluffy bun, good moist char siew. Period. And for once, we ventured outta the village a little and crossed the road over to Chip Bee Gardens!
And boy, were we pleased to find DA PAOLO GASTRONOMIA!
Sucha charming gourmet store I tell ya!
Here's the Cookies and Milk Cheesecake... YUM!
The cheesecake melts in your mouth and they really generous with their Oreo bits =)
I didn't really like the orange/lemon zest that was in the cake though. Preferred my cake without.
Its 6bucks per cake. Good deal for a big slice.
The one in the picture's half-eaten.
Heh =)

Macaroni Soup

Nothing can be quite as comforting as chicken macaroni soup.

Went to the supermaket with Karin and Jac then back to my place to cook this. Simple but nice nevertheless.

The Procrastinator!

Gosh...the guilt from procrastinating too much!!
I would like to say...the pictures you're about to see are way overdue..but hey...the food still looks good..and yea, the food tastes good too!

SO here it is, pictures of what my family ate at Blooie's Roadhouse.
It was my MOM's birthday!

Oh yes! This is my adsolute must-have whenever I pop by Blooie's! =P
Blooie's BACON CHEESEBURGER!
I simply love cheeseburgers. I love my red meat. I love the melty cheese that comes with the think juicy patty. Gosh... AND yes, patties have to be juicy....dry patties are a no-no. And yup, fries are absolutely wonderful. I can eat them anytime. I love thick fries, especially those that are hand-cut and cooked in animal fat. Trust me, it really tastes better.

Okie dokey folks, so what's related to the Cheeseburger???
Well its lame but.....don't ya think of Hotdogs when ya think of Cheeseburgers?? No??
Anyways, Elinn had this and it looks deliciously colorful don't ya think?
So there you have it, BLOOIE'S DOG with CHILLI and CHEESE!

Alright, moving on now to the main events... ...
My aunt (a.k.a Elinn's Mom) had FISH & CHIPS.
As you can see, its a really huge slice, nicely crumbled and fried =)
Served with generous amount of fries and coleslaw as well!
Did I also mention that their coleslaw tastes real good and creamy? The burger and dog comes with it as well. Awesome.

Ah what do we have here.... BBQ RIBS nicely piled on top of some baby kai-lan I think..
served with a scoop of mashed potato.. but according to my brother, who ordered this... he was disappointed cuz the ribs weren't good..

OK now...to end it off.. help yourself to some Roadhouse NACHOS..
The meal's not complete without Nachos I tell ya..
Crispy toasty wholesome nachos served with sour cream, salsa, loads of melty cheese and guacamole (a green mexican dip made from avocado). Topped with diced onions and green chillies.

I love guacamole. Period.

OOPS...just in case you peeps wanna pop by BLOOIE'S
Here's their website.
BLOOIE'S

random foodie post

I've been procrastinating far too much and this blog lies here neglected. I think besides eating so much, I should make it a point to actually write about what I eat. This is bad. ):

So, I shall procrastinate no further!
ON TO THE FOOD!!!!

After 4729573 years, I finally went to the beach to get a much needed tan and in fear of sounding too bimbotic, I shouldn't stay on the topic any further. After said tanning session, we went to Vivo City to... EAT! Right, that and exploring the place. I feel like sucha loser since the mall has been opened for ages and I've only been there like once. D:

Jac and I went to my favourite food court - FOOD REPUBLIC! I hereby proclaim it the best food court with the nicest food around. I usually hate food court but I like the food from Food Republic. At least it's edible.

thunder tea rice

I was being brave and adventurous so I had the Thunder Tea Rice (雷茶饭). I wanted to coerc Jac into sharing it with me so I can have something else but she was afraid. That lousy! ): Basically it's rice with tons of vegetables like coriander, cabbage and a lot of other weird tasting vegetables. It's supposed to be very good for your body and clears the toxins and what nots. I guess it's pretty good for a dish with so much vegetables!

laksa!

While I had such a healthy meal, Jac, on the other hand, was having a VERY unhealthy meal. Laksa! It was good though, I like the thick gravy and the prawns were huge!

chocolatey goodness!

After a bit of shopping and walking, Jac and I finally caved in and went to Godiva! We finally had our much awaited Chocolixer! We took the Dark Chocolate Decadence and goodness gracious. IT WAS BEYOND AWESOME!!!! It wasn't too thick so it just went down my throat smoothly and god, I could probably have down like 10 cups of that.

It's official. That's my new guilty pleasure. Period.

More walking then we went for supper with Bren and YY. God, I think I succeeded in making us sound like pigs. :| But even pigs probably stop eating for awhile, we don't exactly seem to stop!

nasi goreng pattaya
teh tarikmaggi goreng

Went to our favourite indian-muslim place for supper. YY had the Nasi Goreng Pattaya which is basically fried rice enveloped by this huge egg omelette. I liked the fried rice!! Bren, Jac and I got the Maggi Goreng. Thai style - just the way we like it! And Bren being awesome bought me a cup of Teh Tarik. YAAAAY. And that sums up our day! How's that for eating much! :P

Happy Birthday Mom!

Last Monday wasn't only the beginning of 2007, it was also my Mom's birthday!

breakfast for mom

And being the awesome daughter that I am (heh!), I decided to make breakfast for her. This breakfast wasn't served on the day of her birthday but rather, the next day. We got the German sausages the day before from this small eatery at the mall. My egg kinda folded as I was trying to get it out of the pan. So that was pretty disappointing. But my Mom loved the breakfast, she was pretty chuffed I must add! ;)

Sorry for the lack of posts, we aren't doing a very good job at maintaining this food blog huh? I'll try and get a post up soon! But meanwhile, check out my flickr for more photos!
