"Colorful Biscuit"

To most of us, I assume this retro snack requires no introduction!
Made of flour, water and sugar mainly, this Ol'skool biscuit snack usually comes in a pack of 3 colors - pink, yellow, green.
Can be found at most traditional neighbourhood provision shops.

Chinese New Year

Once again, very very overdued post. Chinese New Year was nearly a month ago and it took me so long to put up this post. We really love festivals because it means my Grandma takes over the kitchen and we get to eat seriously drool-worthy food. And the amount of food is enough to fit an entire colony.

harlok prawnsprawn fritters

We had lots of prawns. First the Harlok prawns which is basically a traditional Hokkien dish. The prawns were huge and superbly fresh. We also had the return of the much loved prawn fritters! I took many helpings of this as usual!

sweet and sour fishleeks and stuff

We also had Sweet and Sour Fish that had slices of chinese mushroom in it as well. The skin of the fish was fried so well making it really crispy and the meat was fresh and I just couldn't stop eating this. My Grandma also stir-fried a dish made up of leeks, prawns, roast pork and a few other ingredients. I have no idea what is the exact name of the dish but the ingredients in this dish all symbolizes something.

tarosteamed chicken

Taro (yam) was also present at the table. I avoided it but I saw my mother throwing it into the steamboat that we had! My Grandma also steamed a whole chicken by herself and it was delicious! The skin smelled great and the dark meat parts were so juicy!

suckling pig
close up!

My 2nd Uncle bought a whole suckling pig from a restaurant. The meat was juicy and tender and the skin was very crispy! Yuuuum.

abalonefa cai

The abalone could either be eaten raw or used in the steamboat. I preferred eating it raw though. Grandma also cooked a big bowl of Fa Cai which is a dish that has a huge pork knuckle, sea cucumbers, dried oysters and black moss of thing which is called fa cai, hence the name.

raw foodlobster!

We had a whole tray of raw food for the steamboat. We also had a ginormous lobster!
